The heat of summer softens. The light changes.
The island exhales.
Autumn is one of our favourite seasons here in Crete. Not because it’s dramatic or spectacular, but because everything simply feels right. Days are still warm, usually around 25°C, but without that heavy summer feeling. You can walk, sit, explore and stay outside all day without constantly thinking about shade or timing. Mornings feel fresh, afternoons are warm, evenings gentle.
Walking Season
Autumn is when walking really becomes enjoyable again.
In summer, some walks are simply too hot. In autumn, they feel just right.
Beach walks stretch longer. Paths through olive groves invite you in. Wandering through nearby villages feels natural rather than planned.
You walk because it feels good, not because it’s on a list.

The Sea Is Still Inviting
One of the nicest surprises for many people is the sea in autumn.
After a long summer, the water stays warm well into October and even November. Swimming feels easy. No rushing in and out. Just a calm dip, floating for a while, drying in the sun.
In Plakias, autumn doesn’t feel empty at all. It’s pleasantly lively.
Shops stay open, supermarkets are stocked, and restaurants and cafés have a nice buzz — just without the crowds. Everything works, but at a slower, more relaxed pace. It feels local, social and comfortable.
Calm Days on the Water
With fewer people around, autumn is also a wonderful time to be on the water.
Boat trips feel calmer. The sea is often gentler. The coastline feels more personal.
It’s easier to stop somewhere, swim, linger a little longer.
There’s no rush — and that changes everything.

About Those Sunsets
Autumn sunsets in Plakias are something special.
We say that without exaggeration. The colours shift slowly — warm gold, deep amber, soft pink, sometimes pale blue or a hint of lavender that looks almost unreal. Even after all this time, we still pause for them. Some evenings are perfect for photos. Other times, we just sit and watch.
Why We Love Autumn So Much
Autumn in Crete doesn’t try to impress.
It’s simply comfortable.
Warm but not hot. Lively but not busy.
Open, relaxed, easy.
Everything you enjoy about summer, just lighter. Everything you appreciate about winter, but warmer.
In Plakias, it’s a season that feels balanced. Days unfold naturally. Evenings stay long. And you never feel like you’re missing something.
Once you’ve experienced Crete in autumn, it’s hard not to wish you had stayed a little longer.
