Fresh fish in Crete doesn’t need much explanation.
Just like with wine, honey or cheese, this is not about ranking or debating what’s best.
These are simply places and moments we enjoy and experiences we like to share because they feel right to us.
Taste is personal.
Mood matters.

When the Sea Is Right There
One of our favourite ways to eat fish is when the sea is quite literally at your feet.
At Agia Fotia, you sit so close to the water that it almost becomes part of the table.
This is the kind of place where lunch can slowly turn into afternoon, where plates are shared, and where time quietly stretches. Nothing fancy, just exactly what it should be.
No distractions. No need to dress up. Just fresh fish, simply prepared, and the sound of the sea right next to you.

A Name We Often Hear in Rethymno
In Rethymno, Zefyros is a place we often hear positive stories about.
We haven’t personally been yet — and we think it’s important to be honest about that — but it’s a name that comes up again and again when people talk about good fish in town.
Sometimes that alone is worth noting and trying.
Fish Beyond Fish Tavernas
One thing we really appreciate in Crete is that you don’t always have to look for a “fish restaurant” to eat good fish. Many local tavernas and restaurants serve excellent fish dishes, even if seafood isn’t their main focus.
Grilled fish, simple pasta with seafood, fresh calamari without much fuss.

Our advice?
Try it.
Follow your feeling.
Ask what’s fresh that day.
Sometimes the nicest surprises happen where you least expect them.
